Monday 3:00-4:45 (includes speed & agility)
Wednesday 3:00-4:45 (includes speed & agility)
Friday 3:00-4:00
Ø Players involved with a school sport or in a BFS class are not expected to lift weights before/after school.
Ø T/TH after school hours are also available for individual lift.
Ø After school conflicts with lifting can be accommodated with before school hours
Ø Every player needs to be strength training in the BFS Program!
The after-school BFS program will begin next week, Quarter 2, and be offered every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 2:30-3:30 in the Junior High Weight Room.
This program is free and available to all students who are not currently in a BFS class. This is a great opportunity for any student looking for a place after school to lift weights, work out, or get in shape for a current sport or off-season sport. This is not a place to “hang out” or “goof off” – only students serious about learning the BFS program and/or working out will be allowed to participate.
Students may attend any or all three days offered during the week; coaches will be available to teach/assist with the lifts. Interested students must complete a registration form (signed by a parent) prior to attending for the first time; this form is available below or in the student services office or from Mr. Braa or Mr. Schleper.
The registration information for the Shakopee HS Summer BFS Strength and Speed program are below. The 6th - 8th grade program is the BFS Readiness Program which is similar to the course taught at Shakopee Junior High during the school year.

Strength Training for all athletes that are serious about being their competitive best is important, but it is a concrete foundation for Football Teams. In order to have a successful High School Varsity Football Program, you must have players, parents, and coaches that make strength training a top priority. Football is a unique sport in that it is not year-round or has multiple seasons, but it requires a year-round dedication to strength training. A great football program must have athletes that make time for serious strength training, even when they have other important commitments. Every high school football player must make at least a two-day (if you are currently playing school a sport) or three day (not playing a school sport) a week commitment to finding 60-75 minutes to push himself safely to break personal records in sets, reps, totals, and event scores.
To do this safely and in the correct manner, Shakopee HS has the Bigger-Faster-Stronger (BFS http://www.biggerfasterstronger.com/home/AthleteHome.asp) strength training program. The BFS program is a proven program that is designed for developing powerful, explosive, multi-sport athletes; not bulky power lifters! The BFS program also offers training to help athletes (male & female) with flexibility, diet, speed, agility, and abdominal strength. The strength coaches at the Shakopee HS Fitness Center will help any athlete in grades 7-12 get started on the BFS program. Athletes must follow this program consistently for several weeks to begin to see results and improved performance. In order to have success, workouts cannot be skipped regularly; you must put together eight to ten weeks of hard work to see solid results. Each individual's weekly goal is to break at least eight (8) personal goals, so it is very important to keep good records with your training card. Work Hard and get better by Breaking Personal Records Every Day!
If we want to be a Championship Football Team, this is what it takes!
If you have a verified strength or athletic record for your grade, let the Fitness Center Director know and the Leader Board and/or Strength Club Boards will be updated to recognize your accomplishment.
The football leader board in the High School weight room is now for rising 9-12 graders (class of ’11 – “14). If you have a verified record for your grade and position group, let a football coach know and we will update the board.
All Shakopee student athletes have a great opportunity to take BFS Strength Training as a PE elective class for credit. Taking a BFS Strength Training class during the school day is a great way to make time for developing both the mind and the body. This is a great option if you know you will have difficulty finding time to work out properly for the commitment needed in your sport(s). Student-athletes that play multiple sports, have after school jobs, or want extra time for academic or social flexibility should consider taking BFS as a class, even if it is for non-credit.
Attached below are the regular options for students in grade 10-12 and for students that attend Shakopee Junior High. If these options do not work for your academic situation, then please refer to the after school and summer strength training opportunities.
