About SYFA
PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY
The Shakopee Youth Football Association (SYFA) is a non-profit organization that exists for the purpose of teaching each child the fundamentals of the sport and to provide the framework for the wholesome participation at each child’s playing ability.
- Having fun while learning and being treated with dignity is each child's right and each adult's responsibility.
- We will be team oriented in our approach. In the game of football, the goals of the team and group can only be attained through dedication and commitment of the whole team. Nothing can be accomplished alone.
- Coaches and parents shall stress sportsmanship, team spirit, and developing skills more than winning.
- Coaches and parents shall employ appropriate language and behavior when dealing with impressionable youth.

2011 Shakopee Youth Football Programs
1ST/2ND GRADE FLAG
Days: Saturdays 9:00 AM (also Mondays 6:00 PM in August only).
Season is August 8th – October 15th

Days: Saturdays 10:30 AM (also Mondays 6:00 PM in August only).

4TH GRADE TACKLE
Days: Mon/Wed 5:30 or 7:00 PM and Sat 9:00/10:30 AM.
Season is August 8th – October 30th. Off during MEA.

Days: Tues/Thurs 5:30 or 7:00 PM and Sat 9:00/10:30 AM.

6TH GRADE TACKLE (TRAVEL)
Days: Mon/Tues/Thurs 5:30 or 7:00 PM and Sat. mornings

Location: Home games at Tahpah Park and Middle School
Cost: $150 (fee includes keeping one jersey)

To offer a quality and well-supervised youth football program that, in a fun environment, will teach values of high-character, sportsmanship, and teamwork, instruct youth on proper football fundamentals, increase the overall football skill levels of all participants, while instilling a lifelong love for the game of football.

What's new for 2011?
In a continuing effort to enhance Shakopee Football, changes for the 2011 season include:
- Separating the 5th and 6th grade levels.
- 6th grade becomes a travel program, participating in the Southwest Metro Football League like 7th and 8th grades.
- THREE "Gear Day" equipment pick-up dates spread over 3 weeks. Everyone needs to make one of these to pick up gear.
- 4th grade practices now held on Mondays and Wednesdays.
- Many 6th, 7th, and 8th grade practices and games can be held at Tahpah's lighted fields!
- Allowing travel players to keep one jersey following the season!
- To fund capital improvements and better fields and to keep costs down, moving to a single large (optional) fundraiser instead of many small fundraisers throughout the year.
- Employing an EMT onsite at all home travel games to respond to any medical issues.
- Adding more officials to 4th grade and travel level games.
- No flag option for 4th grade.
- $25 late fee if registering after July 31st (all tackle levels).
- Hard registration cut-off for all tackle levels on August 11th.
- (no late fee or cut off for flag football)
- A common website for the SWML associations (travel levels).
- College scholarship opportunites for graduating Shakopee football players. (dependent on fundraiser results)
